Augusta Precious Metals fees and pricing
How to request an itemized quote and distinguish account fees from metal premiums.
Separate the bill into three layers
An IRA arrangement may involve a dealer's metal premium, a custodian's administrative charges and a depository's storage or insurance charges. A quoted 'annual fee' may omit the price difference between buying and selling metal. Ask which charges are recurring, which are per transaction, and whether any are waived temporarily.
Ask for a worked quote
Request a written example for a specified purchase amount and product. Record the metal's quoted spot reference, purchase price per unit, number of units, all third-party charges and the dealer's same-day buyback bid. A waiver of one fee does not automatically make the entire transaction less expensive.
Compare over your own holding period
Add upfront costs, recurring charges and plausible liquidation expenses over the period you expect to hold the asset. Because metal prices and future bids are unknown, calculate several scenarios rather than treating an advertised fee waiver as a forecast of investment performance.
Before you make a decision
- Which claims are supported by current written documents?
- What costs or restrictions apply if circumstances change?
- Who can independently confirm the tax and custody implications?
A practical example
Consider an illustrative $50,000 transaction. If the dealer quotes a premium, the metal value represented by that payment may be lower than $50,000 even before administration and storage charges. Do not calculate a precise shortfall without the exact product and quote. Request a second illustration showing the proceeds from selling the same items immediately. Compare the resulting amount with the original cash outlay and repeat the calculation for another provider on the same date.
