Augusta Precious Metals review
A due-diligence framework for evaluating Augusta, including what to verify before opening an account.
What Augusta does—and what it does not do
Augusta is a precious-metals dealer, not the same entity as the IRA trustee or storage depository. A buyer should identify each company involved in the proposed arrangement and obtain its own governing documents. A dealer's educational materials can help frame questions, but they are not a substitute for a signed purchase confirmation or a custodian agreement.
How to evaluate the sales process
Ask whether the representative explains both the purchase price and the dealer's contemporaneous repurchase bid. Request a sample transaction showing the exact metal, quantity, price, fees and delivery or vaulting steps. Confirm whether any promotion has conditions, whether a quote expires, and who resolves disputes after the transaction.
A useful comparison scenario
Imagine two dealers quote the same dollar amount of gold but one quotes a larger premium and lower annual account fees. Neither quote can be evaluated from the headline alone: calculate the quantity acquired, first-year cash outlay and hypothetical proceeds if the metal were sold immediately at the stated bid. The example is a comparison method, not a prediction of resale value.
Before you make a decision
- Who is the named custodian and depository?
- What does the written quote say about purchase and resale prices?
- Which terms are promotional, and when do they expire?
A practical example
Before scheduling a call, prepare a written comparison sheet. Enter the product offered, the precise quantity, the dealer’s asking price and the same-day buyback bid. Add the legal names of the custodian and depository and the dates of every quote. If a representative provides only a verbal answer, note that it remains unverified. This process does not establish whether Augusta is suitable for you; it creates a record you can evaluate independently.
