Compare providers
Augusta Precious Metals vs Goldco
A neutral side-by-side checklist of disclosures and documents to request from each provider.
Compare like with like
A fair comparison uses quotes for the same metal, quantity, date and account type. Marketing pages may describe different promotions or example transactions, so do not compare a promotional headline with another dealer's ordinary price.
Compare the entire chain
Record the named IRA custodian, storage provider, annual account charges, purchase premium, selling procedure and any minimum purchase requirements for each company. Verify all current terms directly; this publication does not claim to have obtained contemporaneous quotes from either company.
Make a written decision sheet
Give each provider the same questions and save dated answers. If one does not disclose a same-day repurchase bid or the identity of a third-party service provider, mark that item as unanswered rather than assuming it matches the competitor.
Before you make a decision
- Which claims are supported by current written documents?
- What costs or restrictions apply if circumstances change?
- Who can independently confirm the tax and custody implications?
A practical example
A comparison worksheet can have columns for Augusta and Goldco, but leave unknown cells blank. Ask both companies for the same weight and type of metal, the total purchase amount, the account administrator’s fee schedule and a hypothetical resale quote. Record the time of each quote. If the products differ, compare metal weight and product characteristics separately rather than announcing that one dealer has a lower premium based on non-equivalent products.
